Christmas Decors

Our office had a contest on which division has the nicest décor according to the province assigned to them.  Baguio was assigned to our division and last Friday, we spent almost the whole day doing the decors.  We decided to decorate our area with flowers representing the flower festival in Baguio.  We also decorated it with pine trees and a replica of Mines View Park.  We used different recycled materials and some crepe papers.  We used scissors, t-nut, paint, water colors, staplers, etc. to make sure that our decors will look good.  Thankfully, our efforts paid off and we got second prize.  :)

Food Trip

My colleague and I were craving for Wee Nam Kee’s squid and thankfully our boss and some of our colleagues gave in to our request and went with us to eat at Ayala Triangle.  We had the honey crispy squid, hainanese chicken, hot and sour soup, spareribs and of course rice.  I was so full after eating that I had a hard time standing up after.  And since we’re in ayala triangle already, we decided to have our dessert at caramia.  Yes to mint chocolate gelato! Hehe! :)

A Challenge :D

It’s hard lately whenever I go to work because as of the moment, most of the tasks from QA for this year had been accomplished already. So right now, I really don’t have much to do. This results to me being sleepy all the time because I don’t have anything to do anymore. Normally, I just read and study their processes, policies, etc. but this too results to sleepiness. The challenge now for me is to stay awake all the time while at work. I tell you, there are really some times that my eyes droop which is embarrassing. :D

I just need to make sure that I get enough sleep for the day so that I won’t be sleepy the next day despite a very, very light load at work. Wish me luck, I still have 2 weeks to go. :)

Adtel Christmas Party

I took a leave last Friday to claim my last pay. Finally after almost 2 months I was able to get my last pay. There are some discrepancies on the check I got and HR said they will just provide me with another check.

That day also is Adtel’s Christmas Party and I was invited to attend. It was really a fun party and I missed my former colleagues. When I got there, I talked to my friends and also to my former team mates.

This year’s theme is Cowboy and as usual all employees are dressed according to theme. There was a dance presentation per group and I even joined in the presentation. Thanks to my colleagues who let me use their vest, cowboy hat and boots so I can look like as if I’m wearing a costume too.

It was also the President’s farewell party since he retired already and a welcome party for the new president. Most of the members of the board of directors are present including OML. They all gave their speech and in the end all the employees sang a song. J

It was really a fun night and I really enjoyed it. I hope I’ll be able to see them again. :)

New Product

We recently hired one engineer to handle the design for digital antennas as one of our products. We currently have aerial tv antennas but since everything is upgrading to digital, we need to upgrade our products as well. Our aerial antennas are one of the best selling products in our company and we really hope that we can capture the market as well with our digital antennas. I’m not sure of their progress on the design but the group handling it is putting all their efforts and resources to come up with the best design.

Custom-Made

We were out the whole day the other day to do some last-minute Christmas shopping. The weekend before that, we were also out buying gifts for or friends and colleagues. Thankfully, we were able to buy all the gifts we needed. On the office Christmas party, we received a lot of gifts ourselves from our own friends and colleagues, like custom-made mugs from Personal Creations. That was a very sweet gesture because we had our own names and our group’s name as well on the mug.

Ruby

Our company’s president will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this Friday. Some of us were invited to attend and we are thinking of getting contributions to buy them a gift even though he mentioned that gifts are not necessary. I suggested that we give them a gold coin since it’s a collection and his wife is fond of collecting something rare. I told them that US Gold Bureau has these rare collections of gold coins and we can buy from them for I heard good feedbacks from them too. We still have a few days left to decide on what to give them. Do you have other suggestions?

On Leave Again

One of the engineers in our division was on leave again for 2 days last week. He was on leave for a couple of times already and I do hope he’s fine. First, he had flu, then his lips needs some operation, then he had chin acne and last week, it was sore eyes. He is getting sickly and I do hope his body recovers soon for we need him in our team.

General Assembly

This month’s general assembly in the office is fun. Our HR prepared a game that all employees can join in which the winner will get a prize. We were all asked to bring P1.00 so we can participate in the game. And the game was so simple! It was jack en poy (rock, paper, scissors) and whoever gets to beat HR will win! Everyone was excited to join and brought their P1.00 with them. At first the pot money was only P500 but our HR collected from the management committee members that before the game started, the total pot money amounted to almost P2000.00

And so the game began. Employees were really happy that each one wants to beat HR. It’s as if we’re fighting over gold coins that we really have to win the prize! We were just asked to be honest that if HR beat us already, we have to leave the area. In the end, my colleague from I-view department won.

I hope that HR comes up with games as simple as those to make employees stay and have fun during general assemblies. Kudos to the HR people and congrats to Thirdy! :)

Logistics

One of my true friends at work is handling all logistics concerns in the office. May it be repair and maintenance of the building, car plans and service cars assigned to the management team and even the government permits needed for our operations. This year, our management committee members will get their issued cars again and she’s now looking for car insurance rates that will come with whatever type of car the mancom will choose. Good thing also that she was tasked to handle this because she knows a lot about cars and I’m sure she’ll be able to do her work well. Now, I’m wondering, when will I get my service car? Maybe it’s time I ask her. :D

ROY

We had our rest of year planning last July 22-23 at Astoria Plaza. This year’s roy is a lot different from our previous planning sessions for we did not talk about the financials. We talked about the profiles of the provinces/areas where we hold office and we also talked about the potential businesses we can offer for each province. The provincial heads discussed their respective provinces and the department heads discussed their products and how to sell it to our customers. The new business, which I will be heading, was also launched during the planning.

Our president also invited Mr. Raffy Alunan to talk about DILG briefly. This is part of our strategy and we would like to know a lot about how the local government runs their provinces. We really have high hopes that we can penetrate a larger market nationwide and I hope and pray that my product will be a big part of this penetration.

Logistics

My colleague is busy now for she has been tasked here in the office to look for the cheapest auto insurance for our company cars. We are trying to cut down our expenses and since we have plenty of company cars, the insurance is one of those in the list that needs to be cut down. Our President wants her to look for an insurance that is cheap but is reliable. I hope she’ll be able to find one soon.

Visit by DOE

Our office will be visited today by people from the Department of Energy. This is part of their accreditation process for we applied as supplier of locally-produced renewable energy equipment and components. In line with that, yesterday afternoon was spent cleaning up the office and all the office furniture and making sure that all equipment are working. We hope that we will be accredited for this is our first time to serve the government.

RTC's Birthday

I blogged before that we went to the house of our company’s president during his birthday celebration. I’ve been with the company for a decade already and it’s my first time to visit his house. The party was different for it’s only us employees who were invited. He had a badminton court and some of my colleagues played badminton. When we were getting bored, we teased them to stop playing and let us play. And know what we played? “Patintero”! It’ been so long since I played the game and we had so much fun! We only stopped playing when it’s already time to eat. Here’s a pic of some of us who played, most are the girls from accounting, then my staff and one from HR. :)

Oh No

I don’t know if I blogged about it before that my staff was “borrowed” by our President to act as his executive assistant while his assistant is on maternity leave. And of course I have to oblige despite the projects lined up that we’re supposed to do. But the bad news is, it’s been almost a month since his secretary returned from her maternity leave but my staff is still reporting to the main office. I’m worried now that he may not return her to me as my staff. What keeps me more worried is that, if that happens my staff might resign since that’s not what she was hired to do. She sometimes complains that she doesn’t learn anymore with what she’s doing there. And did I mention that I have tons of work to do that are all way behind target since my staff was supposed to do it. Haayyy… I do hope our President knows what he’s doing.

Last Hurrah

My officemates were so disappointed when our company announced that we won’t be having a summer outing anymore despite the previous announcement. The employees were looking forward to it and we even had an ocular inspection on the possible venues where we can go. Unfortunately, our President disapproved the proposed venues because he wants to have our outing somewhere with a golf course like that of Myrtle Beach golf courses.

In fact, on one of the ocular inspections, he asked us to check one of the golf courses and asked about their packages if it’s at par with Myrtle Beach golf packages. When we told him the rates, he said we can push through with our outing there but sadly, the rates for the employees are way above our budget. So what happened was, our President asked his secretary to check on other golf courses like that of http://www.myrtlebeachgolf.net so he can still continue to play golf and for my officemates, who decided they’ll just go to the beach on their own and not rely on our company resources anymore. I hope to join them when they find a nice venue and this will be my last hurrah before the summer finally ends.

Biggest Loser

There was a show before which has this title. The aim of which is to invite obese people and see who among the contestants lost the most weight and he will be the winner. Our company had the same contest before and it sure helped my employees lose weight. They were not allowed to take apidexin or any medications, they just need to have a diet and do exercises in 120 days. By the end of the contest, some of my colleagues didn’t lose any but there were some who were grateful that they joined for there was really an improvement on their weight. The winner was recognized and given an award during one of our general assemblies. :)

Hiring

As mentioned in my previous post, 2 of my colleagues from the same department resigned. One colleague will start her new work in a new organization on Tuesday while the other one just submitted her resignation effective by the end of the month. She will try her luck in another country and will leave on the first week of June. Anyhow, when I saw their boss’s reaction on the day the second accountant filed her resignation, you can’t say from her face if she’s mad or sad. But I’m sure it will result to having wrinkles that she might need a prototype 37c when it starts showing. Anyhow, they were turning over their accountabilities and other responsibilities to the ones left behind while HR is still searching for their replacement. I hope they find one soon for I’m sure this will hamper their support to the sales group.

Last Day

It’s the last day of one of my colleagues here in the office. And yesterday, another one from the same department filed her resignation. And so now, HR is on the lookout for two accountants to replace the two who resigned. If you know someone who’s interested, leave a message here so I can tell our HR to contact you.

Today marks my 11th year in the company where I work. I cannot imagine I've lasted this long here in the office. It's my first job and I really learned a lot here. Here's to more years in the office... or not. Cheers!
