Challenges

This month is quite a challenging month for me in terms of work. I’ve had a couple of delays already and the review that I’m currently doing is dragging me down.  That’s because I’m not familiar with it so I’m having a hard time asking the right questions.  Coming from a different industry, an industry where I’ve been with for more than a decade and working on a totally different one is a big adjustment for me.  I’m still adjusting and I do hope I’ll be able to adjust well.  I know I have to improve on my work and it has to be soon.

Busy

It’s been a busy week for me.  I’ve been going home late for the past few days that I miss my kids already.  When I get home from work, I still have to review Lance for his exams that we don’t get to play anymore.  I told them I’ll make it up to them this weekend and I’m really looking forward to it.  I also hope next week will be better.  Wish me luck!

Comfy Seat

My new job is quite a way compared to my previous one.  It takes me about an hour and a half to get from our house to work, thanks to the train.  If it weren’t for that, my trip would take two hours at least.  Trip time has made me consider getting a motorbike for the daily travel.  Should I get a motorbike, I’d better buy myself the Airhawk Seat Cushion to make the ride as comfortable as possible.

Work Concern

As mentioned in my previous blog, I took some work at home because I’m having difficulty understanding them and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to answer and analyse some at home.  It is really a challenge for me because I don’t have a back ground in IT and I now belong to the IT Division.  Though I don’t do any programming stuff, understanding some terminologies are really new to me.  Plus my approach to QA review is different on what they’re doing now.  But it’s ok since I get to learn a lot. I just hope I’ll meet the expectations from my boss on what I will accomplish.

Long Commute

Due to the long commute I would do every day starting next week, most likely than not, my sleeping hours would be cut down, and I’d be falling asleep on the trip. Or I may have tired eyes at the end of the day. I might have to get myself some sunglasses native-brand most probably, to protect my eyes from glare and other sources of bright light to not stress my eyes.

New Beginning

By this time next week,  I'd be reporting to my new work.  The new workplace is quite a ways from our house so good luck to me in waking up extra early every morning.  Hope everything works out great!

Core Banking

I’m on an irregular shift now because we’re manning the command center for the bank’s core banking thrust.  We’re assisting the branches with the glitches they experience and sometimes linking them direct to our partner who provided the system.
I have no banking experience but because of this I get to learn how transactions in the bank happen.  I also understand now how it feels to be the teller or a branch manager especially when clients are complaining due to long line or worse discrepancy in their accounts.
We’re almost at the tail-end of the implementation having started almost a month ago.  There are still some glitches but the IT people are really working hard to fix them and eventually it will be ok.  I do hope things will be back to normal by next week.  I’m missing my place in the office already, my chair, my table, my computer. Hopefully we will be going back to our places na by next week. :)

Mock Run

We are once again having a mock run this week and will continue these succeeding weekends to ensure that the new system will be running smoothly by the time of its launch 2-3 months from now. The mock run may sound tiring since we go to work on weekends but for someone like me who hasn’t earned leave credits yet; it is advantageous since I can offset the days I worked on weekends whenever I need to go on leave. Anyway, we hope that everything will be ok in the coming mock. :)
